“Baliklah China!”

“Don’t mix with apu neh neh, later you smell bad”

“Study hard or you’ll end up working hard like a sampah man”

I grew up in Malaysia in the late 90’s,

We survived 1997, and optimism was a booming economy,

I grew up learning how to say thank you and please,

But only to my skinfolk, those who looked and ate like me,

We sang the first verses of Keranamu like a prayer,

Each of us hoping for love to draw us close,

But more and more as hate lit up a pyre,

Now we’re just burned out feeling empty more than most,

2020 wasn’t the vision we’d hoped for,

We didn’t get our flying cars or robotic waiters,

Instead we were plunged into a war,

Fighting enemies too small to even consider,

“We should leave”

“Go UK la, use your degree”

“Undi buat ape undi, sama je gomen”

Sama sahaja kan pertukaran kerajaan,

Yang muda diketepikan, yang nyanyuk dimartabatkan,

Dirgahayu kleptokrat, menjunjung kasih bosku,

Sampailah tanah bertumpah air mataku,

Moyang tunaikan hajatmu,

Menumbuh akar umbi di bumi tercinta,

Cucu ingkari rantaian takdirmu,

Mencabangkan diri untuk mencapai kayangan,

Bercurahkan laungan merdeka,

Kini sampainya abad merdeka baharu,

Perjuangan siswa siswi membakar medan sesawang,

Menampilkan ideologi menggantikan politik ikon serta perwatakan,

Tanah air yang tercinta masih dibelenggu,

Dijadikan tebusan debaran yang menggendang dalam lubuk kegelapan,

Bangkitlah kini anak Malaysia,

Bangkitlah menentang pandemik kelekaan hati,

Putih dan hitam, dalam kemerahan amarah yang ditindas,

Subuh zaman baru sudah tiba,

Lenyapkan hasrat untuk berselesa apabila negara dibina,

Bersatu kita teguh,

Balutkan jiwa diri dengan kebiruan perpaduan,

Bercerai kita roboh,

Berserah kepada Tuhan segenap suara hati,

Berkati tanah dengan peluhan dan kerja ditangani,

Rukun Negara kembali bertiangkan bendera demokrasi,

Dipacak dalam jiwa yang dikongsi,

Negaraku dijadikan azan anak Malaysia,

Ini kalilah, perjuangan sudah bermula.
